The Freedman's Bank Records, 1865-1874 were formerly known as the Freedman's Savings and Trust Company. This was established by the US government, primarily for freed slaves or African-American US soldiers. This index & the scanned images of registers for 67,000 people, provide a wealth of genealogical information helpful in finding African-American ancestors. Suzannne will also explain the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, & Abandoned Lands (Freedman's Bureau). Anglo and other citizens can also befound in these records.
