Publication #1

The Marion Day Mullins Collection of Early Texas Marriage Records

This is the republication of the Marion Day Mullins Marriage Collection. This collection of early Texas marriage records, copied by Miss Mullins in the 1950's and 60's, originally consisted of the earliest available records from 26 counties and was published by FWGS as handwritten abstracts on 2 reels of 35mm microfilm. The collection eventually grew to 56 counties as she and others contributed additional material. This was then published on microfiche cards by FWGS. Most of the new material was type written pages. When the originals were digitized in 2007, we counted 4,727 pages in the collection that represents 116,129 marriages.

Originally these were sold only on microfilm or microfiche which made the price out of reach for many people and not so many researches had microfilm readers at home. Today, computers are owned by the majority of researchers and almost all that are in use today contain built-in CD (compact disc) drives. With today's technology, we have the ability to re-publish the entire Mullins Marriage Collection on a single CD-ROM at a price that is easily affordable by all.
